What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) (डचेन मस्कुलर डिस्ट्रॉफी (डीएमडी) क्या है) ?

• It is the most common and fatal type of muscular dystrophy marked by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to alterations of a protein called “dystrophin” that helps keep muscle cells intact (यह पेशीय दुर्विकास का सबसे आम और घातक प्रकार है, जो “डायस्ट्रोफिन” नामक एक प्रोटीन के परिवर्तन के कारण प्रगतिशील मांसपेशी अध: पतन और कमजोरी द्वारा चिह्नित है, जो मांसपेशियों की कोशिकाओं को अक्षुण्ण रखने में मदद करता है)
• Patients (usually children) have reduced bone densityand an increased risk of developing fractures (मरीजों (आमतौर पर बच्चों) में हड्डियों का घनत्व कम हो गया है और फ्रैक्चर होने का खतरा बढ़ गया है)
• India has over 5 lakh patients in the country suffering from DMD and the condition is predominantly seen in boys, but in rare cases, it can also affect girls (भारत में डीएमडी से पीड़ित 5 लाख से अधिक रोगी हैं और यह स्थिति मुख्य रूप से लड़कों में देखी जाती है, लेकिन दुर्लभ मामलों में, यह लड़कियों को भी प्रभावित कर सकती है)
